How did you get on yesterday with understanding the poem? Below you can click on the Highwayman picture to see a summary which may help you to check.
Today you are going to explore the language in the poem.
- Clarify any new words you have encountered. There is a list here which might guide you.
- Look through the poem and look for these features:
- Metaphor (comparing by saying one thing is something else)
- Simile (comparing by saying one thing is like something else)
- Powerful verbs
- Powerful adjectives
- Onomatopoeia (a word that imitates its sound e.g. creaked)
If you have been able to print the poem, then you might want to use different colours to highlight each feature and create a key for yourself. Alternatively, you could write them as lists of examples in your book.

We are going to continue using the White Rose resources to look at angles. Click here to visit the Year 6 area of their website. Today you need to complete Week 2 Day 4 (Introduce Angles).
Watch the video and then answer the questions by clicking on the ‘Get the Activity’ tab to download the worksheet. Don’t worry if you can’t print it, just write the answers in your home learning book.

Building on from the work you did yesterday where you named the parts of a flower and identified their role, today we are looking at the four main stages of a flowering plant: pollination, fertilisation, seed dispersal and germination. It is going to mean looking at the male and female parts of a flower as these are involved in pollination. Have you already labelled these on your diagram from yesterday? If not, now might be a good time to do so!

Use this diagram to summarise each of the main stages. You could also carry out more research into the different methods of seed dispersal and display this in different ways.
