Tuesday 5th May 2020

Today you are going to be writing an informal letter as one of the characters from ‘The Highwayman’. One of the redcoats, who captured Bess and saw what happened, would be a good choice however you can choose one of the other characters if you feel more able to write as them.

Look at this presentation to help you to set out your letter and click here for a word mat you may find useful to help you vary your word choices.

We are going to continue to follow the activities provided by White Rose. Click here to visit the Year 6 area of their website. This is going to have a fractions focus. Today, you need to complete Summer Term Week 3 Lesson 2 (Compare and order fractions).

Watch the video and then answer the questions by clicking here to download the worksheet. Don’t worry if you can’t print it, just write the answers in your home learning book.

There is also additional support on the BBC Bitesize website

You can check your answers here.

If you would like to complete some additional work, you can look back through the problem solving activities we did not focus on during week 2.

Topic (History)

Yesterday you researched VE Day. Today you need to use this to write a news report. You can choose from:

  • A 1945 newspaper
  • A 2020 newspaper
  • A 1945 radio report which you then record
  • A 2020 radio report which you then record

Think carefully about your tenses and language choices which fit with your intended audience and purpose.

There is a newspaper template here which you can use to help you organise your writing if you find it helpful.
