Day 2

Hi! We hope you’ve had a good first day learning at home.


Task 1

Now that you have the annotated image of your imaginary planet, start thinking about the story that will be set on this planet. It is best if you use a ‘story mountain’ to plan each section of the story; another way to do this is to use a simple story mapping ‘box’ with annotations of what happens in the story. Use the questions as prompts to help you.

Task 2

Read through the list of words that year 5 must be able to read and spell. Make sure you ask for help from an adult if you cannot pronounce the word. Your target for today is to learn the words that begin with ‘A’. Use the spelling strategies that you have learnt in school to practise spelling these words:

  • outline the word to remember the shape of the word
  • use coloured pencils to write each word in a different colour
  • make a word pyramid

By the end of the two tasks, you will have a story plan which outlines each section of your story; you will have revised key spellings for year 5, to keep these words fresh in your mind.


Task 1

Complete the 'ultimate times table challenge' worksheet below. Record your time!

Compare your time to your recorded time yesterday. Are you getting quicker?

(The answer sheet is provided for you to check your answers once you have finished).

Task 2

Warm up: Think of three numbers that have a sum of 360.

Now think of another set of numbers, and another.

Complete the worksheet below.

Remember, angles around a point add up to 360°.

By the end of the two tasks, you will have completed a timed times table challenge and a calculating angles around a point worksheet.

Previously, we had looked at the planets in our solar system and the way they orbit in space. We would like you to find out about why the Earth has day and night and why we have different seasons. Does everywhere in the world experience them like we do? You can present your research as you choose: a diagram, a cartoon strip, a model or an animation are a few ideas.
